Tom Brady has been in the NFL for more than two decades and somehow looks in better shape than he did now than when he was in his 20s.

Brady is set to make his tenth Super Bowl appearance this weekend when his Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 43-year-old will be hoping to add to the six rings he won during his 20 years with the New England Patriots.

Brady has been written off many times as he entered his 40s with people expecting a drop off in his production, as seen with other ageing quarterbacks.

The 2020 season turned out to be one of his best statistically as he threw for 40 touchdowns to see the Bucs reach their first Super Bowl since 2002.

Brady entered the NFL in 2000 as the 199th pick of the draft coming out of Michigan.

There appeared to be nothing remarkable about the 6ft 4in player who was selected by the Patriots as a backup to Drew Bledsoe.

There are plenty of pictures of Brady at the time of the NFL combine that show him in not the best shape.

There is also the video of the quarterback completing the 40-yard dash in a pedestrian time of 5.28 seconds.

Over the course of the next 20 years, Brady has got himself into incredible shape. He looks better now in his 40s than he did when he entered the league.

Just last year he posted a photo captioned: “Pre and post TB12 Method”.

Brady detailed his diet in his 2017 book, The TB12 Method, and it’s quite strict. It includes drinking half of one’s body weight in ounces of water and lots of fruits and vegetables.

His personal chef once said that 80 per cent of the food in the Brady household is vegetables.

Brady also follows the 80/20 method – 80 per cent of his food is alkaline as he believes it reduces inflammation in the body.

This means he avoids things like mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers and aubergines.

“The regimen I follow is a mix of Eastern and Western philosophies,” Brady wrote in the book. “Some of these principles have been around for thousands of years. My nutritional regimen may seem restrictive to some people, but to me it feels unnatural to eat any other way.”

“Many people have conditioned their bodies to a nutritional regiment made up of lots of white or pale-looking foods – french fries, potato chips, white bread, chicken nuggets – that don’t exist in nature.”

His diet has become less strict in recent years and he allows himself cheat meals like pizza.

“If I’m craving bacon, I have a piece. Same with pizza,” he told Men’s Health.

“You should never restrict what you really want. We’re humans, here for one life.”

In the interview with Men’s Health, Brady outlined what a typical day’s worth of food entailed.

He would have a berry-and-banana smoothies pre-workout followed by avocado and eggs for breakfast.

On the menu for lunch was salads with nuts and fish for lunch.

Brady would eat hummus, guacamole, or mixed nuts for snacks and then roasted vegetables and chicken for dinner.

Brady revealed a fridge full of fruits like grapes, blueberries, apples, pears, bananas, and veggies like cucumbers, kale, and spinach. He likes to add TB12 electrolytes to his water, and he’s a fan of recovery fluids.

On gamedays, his meals are simple: a smoothie and an almond butter and jam sandwich.

Brady will workout for 40 minutes, four to five times a week with resistance bands. He doesn’t use weights because the focus is on speed, agility and core stability.

It seems to be working as the superstar shows no signs of quitting the sport just yet and is still at the top of his game. He has reiterated his desire to play until he is 45 many times.
