MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) – The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is reporting an increase of 1,582 positive COVID-19 cases Sunday, the highest single day increase the state has seen since the pandemic began. This brings the state’s total to 89,185. One new death is reported bringing the death toll to 1,210.
In Sunday’s report, 23 more Wisconsinites are hospitalized for COVID-19. In total, 6,332 people in the state have had to be hospitalized due to COVID-19.
There were a total of 6,153 negative tests state wide. According to DHS, 87% of people in the state with the virus have recovered.
La Crosse County is breaking its record again Sunday for the highest number of cases reported in one day with 129 new cases. This brings the county’s total to 1,754. On Sunday, UW-La Crosse announced a campus-wide shelter in place due to the increasing number of cases in the county. 51 new cases were reported at the university on Sunday for a total of 275 cases since September 8.
In Eau Claire County, DHS is reporting an increase of 61 new positive COVID-19 cases bringing the county total to 1,232 positive cases. Zero new deaths were reported, keeping the total at six. UW-Eau Claire is not reporting any new cases on Sunday. A total of 184 cases of COVID-19 in Eau Claire County have been connected to UW-Eau Claire.
Dunn County is reporting 12 new cases on Sunday for a total of 249 in the county.
Chippewa County reports nine new cases on Sunday bringing the county’s total to 418.
