South Korea reported 813 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the East Asian country to more than 3,100.

Outside of mainland China – where the outbreak started – South Korea has the most reported cases of the virus.

The spike in new cases comes as the South Korean officials have been testing thousands of people, mostly in the southeastern city of Daegu and nearby towns, where 86 percent of all coronavirus cases in the country have come from, The New York Times reports.
