Coronavirus: Spain eases restrictions
Dermatologists in Spain have linked five unique skin conditions to the potentially deadly coronavirus.
Researchers found the different skin conditions appeared in patients that had either contracted COVID-19 or those suspected of having the virus.
The results have given new information about how coronavirus might be displayed in the form of skin symptoms, The Independent reports.

Scientists from the Spanish Academy of Dermatology examined tests on 375 patients in Spain and have since published their findings in the British Journal of Dermatology.

In 19 per cent of cases, chilblain-like symptoms were present and described as “acral areas of erythema-edema with some vesicles or pustules”.
They were found on hands and feet, showing up as red or purple spots caused by bleeding under the skin.
It was found on younger COVID-19 patients suffering milder forms of the virus.
Another skin condition identified in the study were “vesicular eruptions” seen in 9 per cent of cases.
They are described as small, itchy blisters found on the trunk of the body and filling with blood, present in middle-aged patients.
“Urticarial lesions” were identified in 19 per cent of COVID-19 patients, likened to a nettle rash with pink or white raised areas of the skin.

Small, flat and raised red bumps called “other maculopapules” were seen in 47 per cent of cases around hair follicles and compared to the common skin condition of pityriasis rosea.
The final skin condition identified from the research was called Livedo or necrosis, and was seen in just 6 per cent of cases.
They were caused by the impairment of circulation in the blood vessels of the skin and led to patients experiencing a blotchy red or blue appearance.
There have been more than 3 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 with more than 217,000 deaths.
