Intermittent fasting is a great way to lose weight. It has even been heralded as one of the best diet options out there today along with the Mediterranean diet. But is it for everyone or are there people that should stay away from it?

People Who Should Avoid Intermittent Fasting

Considered as one of the easiest and fuss-free weight loss diets around today, intermittent fasting has gotten a lot of attention in the more recent years, and all for good reason. This is because of its effectiveness and simplicity since the diet is all about fasting for a certain period of time every day. There’s no special food to eat or hard routine to follow, just fasting for most of the day while you eat healthy and nutritious foods on the window of them where you’re allowed to.

As effective as it is, however, there are some people who would do best to stay away from it. Here are examples:

Pregnant Women

Being pregnant means that you are eating for two now, even if you’re eating in moderation. This means that pregnant women should avoid intermittent fasting or any type of fasting at all and focus on eating healthy and nutritious food for themselves and the growing baby in their tummies.

People With An Eating Disorder

Because intermittent fasting requires you to practice a restrictive eating window with discipline, it may be triggering for people with eating disorders, such as bulimia and binge eating. Additionally, people suffering from any eating disorder should seek immediate help before they consider starting any form of diet.

People With Type 1 Diabetes

Because people with type 1 diabetes are dependent on insulin, following the diet can be dangerous since these people should be following a regular eating schedule filled with nutritious food. The same also goes for people with low immunity and other chronic health problems like cancer.

People Who Are Training

People who are training for high endurance sports should avoid this diet as well because those sports need the body to have a dependable nutrient timing, which can be complicated for people that fast for most of the day.
