Five members of Missouri family test positive for coronavirus – New York Post

Five members of one family in Missouri have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus — including a preschool teacher in a school where several other educators have contracted the virus.

Jane Weinhaus, 63, and her immediate family in the St. Louis area, including her husband, two adult children and daughter-in-law, have all tested positive, a local NBC affiliate reported.

Weinhaus had spent several days on a respirator after initially coming down with a cough, her son, Ryan, told the outlet. Her husband, Michael, is just two doors down from her in the ICU where they are being treated.

“That’s where it all started, with a cough, and next thing you know, it was not getting better,” Ryan said.

Ryan, 32, and the rest of the family appear to have had an easier time recovering. His brother, Jason, is “pretty much back to 100 percent” after developing a fever, aches, shortness of breath and a cough, according to Ryan.

“I did not expect myself to test positive or to have some of these symptoms, but it can happen to anybody,” Ryan said. “It’s not just elderly individuals.”

Jane works at a childhood center that has shuttered after other teachers and a parent have come down with the virus, the outlet reported.

She’s recovered to the point of being taken off her ventilator.

“We’re still proceeding with caution and cautiously optimistic that she can remain off the ventilator during all of this,” Ryan said.

Ryan stressed that everyone needs to take care of themselves and stay in their houses.

“It’s not even so much about you protecting yourself, but it’s you protecting people on the outside as well,” Ryan said. “So be smart. Stay in your house. You know, follow suit.”
