It has been more than two months now that India has been marred by the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, with each passing day, there are numerous novelties related to Covid-19 virus that keeps surfacing.

One such issue is what if a person has clear symptoms of Coronavirus, the CT scan results also show visible markings but swab testing reports come negative.

Dr Deepak Baid, President, Association of Medical Consultants says, “This is a serious issue. As many as 30 per cent of patients are facing this dilemma. These patients have clear symptoms of Covid-19, their CT scan results show clear indications but the swab testing reports are negative.”

“Unfortunately, as the swab test results are negative, these patients do not get admission in designated Covid hospitals. Adding to their misery, even private hospitals hesitate to admit these patients because of scan results and symptoms similar to Coronavirus,” he said.

AMC is a body with more than 13,000 private doctors in Mumbai under its aegis. After tracking the experiences of many such doctors, Baid has urged the state and central governments to make some immediate provisions for these patients.

“The government should consider this category of patients. Some kind of guidelines should be laid out, followed by provisions for these patients as they have clear symptoms and their CT scan results are also indicative,” Baid said.

Until the move is made from the administration, Baid feels that such patients need to be cautious and should take all necessary precautions. “If one has symptoms like heavy breathlessness and other symptoms similar to COVID and the CT scan results are also indicative, it’s better that the person stays in suspected COVID wards in hospitals under the observation of doctors,” he said.

“For patients, who have mild symptoms, self-quarantine with home treatment as per doctor’s advice is a viable option. One also needs to ensure that the infection doesn’t spread to others,” Baid said.
