Leon Goretzka isn’t the only Bayern Munich player to have undergone a dramatic body transformation of late.
The 25-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who cut a slender figure during his time at Schalke, concentrated on a workout programme designed to increase muscle mass during the lockdown period.
“For me, lockdown was both a crisis and an opportunity,” Goretzka explained in an interview with Bild.
“A crisis because you miss football and daily training with the team, but also a chance to gain muscle mass in co-ordination with the physiotherapist.
“In crucial games and moments, it is important to be physically and mentally fit. The weight helps me in tackles, makes me a bit more agile and robust. Not only on the ground in a one-on-one, but also in the air.”
I just want the name of Bayern Munich’s fitness coach.

On-loan midfielder Phillipe Coutinho, who always maintained a slim build during spells at Inter Milan, Liverpool and Barcelona, also appears to have bulked up considerably since joining the Bundesliga side in August.
Pictures of the Brazilian using weights during a training session highlight the player’s increase in muscle mass, with side-by-side images confirming his impressive 12 month transformation.

Bundesliga top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski is another member of the Bayern squad who appears to have bulked up of late but so has pacey-full-back Alphonso Davies, as you can see in the image below.
So what’s the secret behind these remarkable body transformations?
Judging by Pep Guardiola‘s comments about Lewandowski, a key member of Bayern’s talented side, his actions are wearing off on his teammates.
“He is the most professional player I have ever met,’ he said in 2016 via AS.
“In his head, he thinks about the right food, sleep and training: 24 hours a day. He is always there, never injured, because he focuses on these things.
“He always knows what is important, to be in the best condition.”
