15 Mental Health Tips for Quarantine – TAPinto.net

(EAST ORANGE/ORANGE, NJ) – Catching the COVID-19 virus is not the only health concern during this pandemic. The mental health of the community is also under attack during this high-anxiety time in our world. In response to this, we put together 15 small tips to keep yourself in the best mental health while social distancing. 

1. Keep a schedule. Create a calendar that includes time for work and self-relaxation.

2. Get dressed. Don’t just lounge around un-showered.

3. Grab your mask and go for a walk. Meet up with a neighbor and walk with them 6 feet apart.

4. Use this time to start or maintain a fitness routine. Exercise releases endorphins.

5. Connect with the people you care about virtually. Zoom, WhatsApp, Facetime, are ways to make this possible.

6. Drink lots of water and do not binge eat. Summer is still coming.

7. See the silver lining in the COVID-19 pandemic while not minimizing the reality of people losing their loved ones. Don’t look at this time as a death or prison sentence. Instead, view this time as a gift to spend with family, to do that task around the house you always wanted to, reconnect with your spouse, sketch out that business and financial plan, learn about the stock market, teach a pet a new trick, read that book, potty train the baby, try a new recipe, or even start journaling.

8. Spend extra time playing with and learning from your children.

9. Find your own retreat space in the house to go to when you need a break.

10. Accept that you are doing the best you can, and so is everyone else. You cannot fail because there is no roadmap or precedent set.

11. Limit negative social media and news reports. Think positive thoughts.

12. Notice the good in the world, those helping people.

13. After completing #12, join them. Help others. Find ways, big and small, to give back. We welcome you to participate in the #TAPintoRemeberToLoveChallenge.

14. Find humor in each day. Watch a comedy. Think of a funny time and call a friend to reminisce.

15. If you are feeling depressed, are in an abusive situation, or are experiencing anxiety. Reach out for help. Contact your religious leader or use this time to find one. Call your therapist or use this time to hire one. Modern technology has gifted society with being able to access a therapist at your fingertips through several apps.
